Help Sable Rose & Pups -- Friday July 3rd, 2009
Sable Rose Needs Help!
Please Donate.
This dog was spotted @ the junction of 62/356, she was finally found the next night by a rescuer. She is one of the more severe cases we have seen. She is starving & had 200 ticks. About 100 ticks were pulled off over 2 days, but there were that many more. She was taken to a home, bathed, fed & watered her, & they pulled ticks & pulled ticks & pulled ticks...all sizes. Gross, sorry.
She was taken to Leota Animal Rescue to be rehabilitated & have her babies. She was being re-fed slowly, to get her digestive system used to food. That requires a special diet.
Sable Rose had ELEVEN puppies four days later!
The smallest one weighed 6 ounces, the largest 11 ounces.
If anyone would like to donate ANY amount for her rehabilitation & care, please give. Sable Rose will require veterinary care, vaccinations, etc, & then there are all the puppies to feed, house & receive veterinary care & get spayed/neutered.
This dog is so pitiful, but has such a sweet gentle spirit...and those startling WHITE eyes make her pretty unique. She is friendly, but very submissive. She's 1 or 2 years old & it's hard telling how long she has been on her own looking for food.
All will be available for adoption from Leota Animal Rescue.

Hot diggity digs for dogs
Freshman Cody Miller helps to steady a "dog condo" frame as sophomore Patrick Green attaches the cloth material to the frame, and sophomore Kyle Stephan uses a band saw to cut PVC pipe to size for the frame in the construction technology class at Madison Consolidated High School.
The students' work was for the Elevated Dog Bed Project. The beds, also called dog condos, are for local shelters and rescue operations, and is being funded by Bridges for Animals in Madison and the Scottsburg Environmental Club at Scottsburg High School. Additional materials were provided by the Columbus Dog Connection in Ohio. Six large and two small beds will go to the Leota Animal Rescue facility in Scottsburg and two will go the Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter in Madison.
The project is one of several community service projects that the MCHS construction technology class took on this school year. Last week, the students also made picnic tables for the Kent Volunteer Fire Department and the Faith Alliance Church in Madison. Teacher Mike Frazier said the projects are good for the local organizations and for the students because they get to build things that will be of use in their hometowns. (Staff photos by Ken Ritchie)
Special Thanks to Melinda -- Saturday March 7th, 2009
Special Thanks
A special thanks goes out to Melinda Lowery and her group of home schoolers. These fantastic children chose Leota Animal Rescue to receive the money they raised for abandoned animals. This group of children raised $176!! These funds are going to be used to get electricity out to the kennel area so we can have lights and heated water buckets there. What an awesome group! I went and visited with them, and took one of the dogs with me. I had just picked him up the night before from the shelter, so he didn't have a name. The children named him "Rodney", and it certainly suits him! Thank you, Melinda, and all your home schoolers. Who says a group united can't make a difference?
