Austin
Austin

My husband and I adopted “ Austin ” (Rover Rescue #1953) on September 6th. I just wanted to give you an update on Austin . First, his name is now Drak and he responds to it very well. I had such a hard time calling him Austin because that is my nephew’s name and he really didn’t respond to it. I continuously was calling him Dracula because of his face, the widow’s peak. My husband shortened the name, he responded and it just fit. Secondly, I just don’t understand why he was in foster homes for so long because he is just the most lovable dog. He has adapted extremely well to his new surroundings, other dogs, and people. He is a major attention hog. He is just too cute not to love. I will admit that the first few weeks with him were a bit of a struggle but one day he just surprised me with his change of attitude (just like a kid, I guess). I have attached a few photos. Thank you and Rover Rescue for this wonderful animal. P.S. Austin was at Leota Animal Rescue for 10 months with no success. We were able to transfer him to Rover Rescue in Chicago where he found this wonderful home.

What a guy!! He is absolutely adorable and we love him to pieces!!!! The way he has fit into our family is unbelievable. Our “girls” have really taken to him. We have had a few territorial episodes, but that is to be expected, but not very many at all. He has learned so much already and we are trying really hard to train him well. I wish you could see how well they are playing together and how responsive he is. We can tell by some of our actions that he has definitely been abused. It just breaks my heart. I threw a ball for him to play with, and then later kicked it easy and both times he just cowered down to the ground and put his head down. I’m glad he can’t tell me what has happened to him in the past because it would make me sick. But, he doesn’t have to worry about that ever again! He is really learning how to play and we will be more aware of our actions. We have decided to name him “Cooper”! It really seems to fit and he is already responding to it (I think!!) We are so grateful for him, and I can’t wait to see how we all grow together!! Thank you so much for rescuing him! By what you did, we were able to bring him into our family!
